April Newsletter
Welcome to the first Alternatives 4 Children Newsletter. In this newsletter we will tell you about some of our upcoming activities, tell you how you can get involved, update you on the charity as well as updates on projects.
Alternatives4Children is teaming up with GAIM, the world’s premier hedge fund event, for this year’s Summer Party in Amsterdam. The party is shaping up to be our most high profile networking and social event ever, while raising money for a great cause – children in need – at the same time.
A4C’s Summer Party is being held on June 20th between 17:30 – 20:00 at the Vondelpark 3 venue in Amsterdam’s Vondelpark. That is also the first evening of the Global Alternative Investment Managers (GAIM) conference in Amsterdam, which runs until the 22nd of June.
You will get a chance to network after the GAIM conference with the attendees, enjoy one of the trendiest spots in Amsterdam and at the same time support children in need!
We will also have a surprise for you! The party will start right after the GAIM conference so you all can join before going off to your dinner parties! You might even choose to stay on!
The event is also open to non GAIM participants. You will need to buy your tickets in advance. As spaces will be limited and we will sell out, you need to buy them asap.
We are looking forward to seeing you there!
P.S. The profits of the event will go to sponsor Alternatives 4 Children, a charity run by professionals from the Dutch Alternatives Fund Industry. Your attendance will make a difference to over 400 children around the world!

Ruud Hendriks joins A4C Advisory Board
A4C has appointed Ruud Hendriks as a member of the independent advisory board. Ruud has been working in the fund management industry for over 30 years. In the course of his international career, he has held senior roles at some of the most recognised names in the business. Currently he works in advisory roles for Lombard Odier, KKR, Man and Financial Assets.
Marc de Kloe, Cofounder of A4C said: “With A4C we’ve seen what can be achieved when people choose to put aside the relentless pursuit of investment returns for a while and contribute some of their time and skills to supporting the greatest of all causes – ensuring that children from the poorest backgrounds worldwide get a decent chance in life. Ruud Hendriks has attended our events for years and we are delighted that he has taken his involvement to the next level, by taking a more active role and also introducing our work to his extensive network.”
Ruud Hendriks said: “I’ve known A4C for years as a group of very committed volunteers who demonstrate the best side of a hedge fund industry, that hasn’t always been portrayed in the Buy Your Ticket for GAIM most positive way by the media. By broadening A4C’s scope we open up the charity to the institutional world, which is moving towards ensuring that all its investments are carried out in the most socially responsible way possible. I would like see A4C evolving as the leading charity for the whole Dutch financial investment industry in the future.”
Amsterdam Investor Forum
Alternatives 4 Children received donations totaling over € 30,000 from the Amsterdam Investor Forum held on February 17th at the ABN Headquarters and organised by ABN AMRO Clearing. The event was attended by over 200 people and was the first in a series that are being organised this year to help raise funds for A4C.
Marc de Kloe said: “We initiated the relationship between the AIF and A4C when I was working at ABN AMRO. I am glad that even though I’ve moved on from the bank, that they are committed to supporting us and that the donation has become even larger! This is a true vindication of the success and support of the event and we thank ABN Clearing for their continuous support. This is a unique model that we encourage others to follow.”
Sophie Robe said: “This was a fantastic event. It not only positions us as the leading charity for the investment community in the Netherlands, it lays the foundation for future chapters abroad.’’

Project Update Reckoning
One of the five projects A4C is currently supporting is Reckoning, an organisation that helps children (4 to 18 years) in underprivileged areas in becoming local and global leaders.
Reckoning
Reckoning has developed a unique programme called the Reckoning Approach, which combines art making, leadership development and character education under all its initiatives. The key objective of the Reckoning Approach is to allow young people to develop essential social skills and thereby improve their capacity to become leaders in their schools and communities.
With the help of A4C, Reckoning launched its latest module in March and have had strong interest from schoolz and Adobe, who will be the business partner for the next module. Rather than “education,” Reckoning uses the term “enlightening experience” to describe what it does. The approach is built around preparing a child for a life of discovery, entrepreneurship and collaboration with others, as learning never stops.
Reckoning’s MashUp Academy, introduced in 2015, aims to bring technology and innovation to students in underresourced communities. The focus is creative problem solving and idea generation, using the latest technologies as a tool. The MashUp Academy focuses on both teaching students skills that use technology, as well as offering practice and competencies in other skills needed to land good jobs. The teaching support staff, supplied by Stichting Reckoning, focus on engendering soft skills and character development for future success.
Students gain exposure to numerous industries such as software development companies, app developers, backend technology, and even retail and consumer companies with creative technology solutions departments. The students will not only learn the technical and social skills needed to work in these industries, but also meet people working in these fields. The curriculum connects to reallife problem solving and applications and the academy links the school workshop directly with future careers.
